Day and night hours, tracked for you
Most permit programs ask for a share of your supervised driving to happen after dark. Learner Lane marks each drive as day or night from the time you started (you can change it), and shows separate progress for each. Your goal follows the region you choose, or you can set your own.
50 hours with 10 at night is a common requirement in the US, but it isn't universal. Some states and countries ask for more. Check your official driver handbook for the exact number.
Share your hours with your instructor
With the one-time Pass Pass you can send your driving log and your practice scores to your instructor or parent as a PDF. The log itself is always free.
What to practice during your supervised hours
Logging hours is the easy part. Making them count is harder. Use this checklist to make sure your practice covers what the road test will ask of you:
- Smooth starts, stops and steering in an empty parking lot
- Residential streets, STOP signs and 4-way stops
- Left turns across traffic and right turns on red
- Lane changes with mirror and blind-spot checks
- Highway merging and exiting
- Parallel parking and 3-point turns
- Driving at night, with low and high beams
- Rain, fog and other bad weather
- Busy downtown traffic with cyclists and pedestrians
- The roads around your road test location
Between drives, play through the same situations in Learner Lane's 3D levels, such as 4-way stops, yellow lights, fog and stopped school buses, so you've already made the call before you meet it on the road.
